Welcome to Benwick
Benwick is an English civil parish within the district of Fenland and the county of Cambridgeshire
Benwick in Cambridgeshire is a fenland village with a population of around 1200. The village sits between the nearby towns of Ramsey, Whittlesey, Chatteris and March. Benwick is a farming community, with the name originating from the old English 'Beymwich' meaning farm where beans are grown, or farm by a tree-trunk. The River Nene (old course) running through the village making it accessible by boat and the village has it's own mooring. The village currently has a primary school, a village shop and a pub. We have a village hall and church hall annexe, offering a range of activities. Also located in the village is a play area, parish cemetery and allotment plots. Benwick Parish Council performs a range of functions to provide management of its local facilities and environment. Some of these functions it conducts itself, whilst in other cases it provides feedback to Fenland District Council, Cambridgeshire County Council and National Government. We hope this website provides you with information on the Parish Council activities including the agendas and minutes of our meetings, the Councils finances and governance and newsletter as well as signposting to other useful information and services.
